• Notes

Ira was born in Waterford, Caledonia County, Vermont, on 18 April 1795. He was the son of Joseph Felch Junior and Sarah Ayers. He married Mercy Ann S. Paine in Waterford, on 12 March 1817. Ira died of kidney disease on 9 May 1879 in Brownington, Orleans County, Vermont, at age 84. A family story that he was a "Captain", born in Maine, is likely fanciful. Another story, that the family settled Felchville and built it up, having it named after them, is certainly true -- but not necessarily of a branch closely connected to Ira. That the family as a whole originated in Wales is very probable. [1]
